Tell me about yourself is a pretty standard question employers ask during the interviewing process, yet a lot of people have a difficult time answering it. ALL YOU BRANDING is all about helping you identify the things that motivate and inspire you, so you can articulate your challenges, as you showcase your strengths, making it possible for you to command the attention you deserve, as you confidently answer this question and put forward your best self.
What you should know is that there are three things employers are seeking to uncover when they ask you to tell them about yourself
AGILITY:
Are AGILE and flexible? Employers want to know if you are willing and able to adjust and function in an ever-changing work environment. This agility is critical especially in organizations that are always growing or adjusting to market trends or unexpected events (COVID pandemic) that require the organizational strategy to pivot. If you are flexible to switching roles, taking on more responsibility, being innovative, or working in a different kind of way, then you are what most employers are looking for.
HOW WILL YOU SAVE THEM MONEY:
Your ability to help the employer see how you can help the company save money is part of what you need to address as you respond to the “tell me about yourself” question. Employers want to visualize how you will save them money before you actually do so, and your ability to convey that is in how you answer this question. What do you bring to the table? How is that important to your hiring manager and the organization? Why are you the best candidate for the opportunity and what proof/evidence do you have that what you claim is true/believable or factual?
INITIATIVE:
Most employers don’t want to babysit or constantly check in on an employee, and your ability to be self-directed and take initiative is what employers want. So tell them. Will you need hand-holding? Can you show initiative and take ownership of work/projects without waiting to be told? How well do you perform when empowered?
Be you. Better!
